The Bruins come away with a 2-0 win against the Erskine College Flying Fleet tonight in their home opener at Alumni Stadium.
"The result is great," Head Coach Greg Fulton said. "We love to win games in front of our home crowd."
The Bruins came into this game with a 0-1 record after losing to Truett McConnell on the road in their season opener. On the other side, this was Erskine's first regular season match of the season.
Possession and opportunities were controlled by the Bruins in the first half. Both teams did get a few chances for an early goal but the score remained 0-0 until a header from Matthias Baladi off of a Mario Figueroa free-kick found the back of the net in the 28th minute. That was the first goal of the Bruins young season. Though the Bruins threatened offensively towards the end of the half, it was 1-0 headed into halftime.
Wasting no time in the second half, Asher Aurednik scored almost immediately in the 47th minute off an assist from Eli Solomon. A lot like the first half, the Bruins held control but couldn't finish the chances to score more. The Bruins defense was a shining light all night, interrupting the Fleet's attacks. Goalkeeper Cameron Braswell had a good night of control that led to his clean sheet.Â
"It's always a good day when you don't allow any goals," Coach Fulton said, "but it's translating that into goal-scoring opportunities that we need to work on. [The defense] remains massively important with a crazy schedule ahead."
Coach Fulton went on to stress that there are many things that the Bruins still need to work on and get better at throughout the year. He wants them to do a better job of taking what they do in training and bringing it to the field in a match.
The Bruins are back in action Tuesday, September 10 as they take on Belmont Abbey College on the road in Belmont, North Carolina.
