From Jacksonville, Florida, the Bob Jones University women's soccer team fell to NCAA DII program Edward Waters University in a 3-1 decision.
The Bruins opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes when Shannon Miller found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, putting Bob Jones up 1-0. The Tigers answered quickly in the 19th minute to even the match.
Edward Waters took the lead before half time with another goal in the 30th minute. A penalty kick in the final 25 minutes of the contest sealed the 3-1 win for the Tigers.Â
"We started the game very well and held the possession, quick switching, combination play and movement into the attacking third," commented Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We created constant attacking pressure and were able to get on the board first. The skill and speed of Edward Waters started kicking in, and we fell off the tracks a bit and became disorganized defensively, and this cost us three goals that we didn't need to concede."
He continued saying, "despite the loss, I was happy with the improvement in getting back to our style of play that has helped us to be successful in the past and will bode well moving into our final few games and regionals coming. We knew playing a talented NCAA DII team like Edward Waters would give us a huge challenge, but no doubt we will be much better from this experience. I was really happy with the work rate and style of play for a good part of the game, but we still need to cleanup our technical side of the game so that tactically we can be more consistent in possession to open up the field in a more sustained way."
"We had to manage a bunch of minutes from some key players due to our game at noon tomorrow, but all of our subs did a fantastic job and brought a lot of energy to the game."
With the loss, Bob Jones moves to 3-7-5 on the season. It will be a quick turnaround as the Bruins are back on the pitch tomorrow scheduled to take on region opponent Trinity College of Jacksonville at noon.
