Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaitlyn Yerkes

Bruins Shutout Eagles in 3-0 Win

The women's soccer team wrapped up their weekend road trip with a 3-0 clean sheet victory over NCCAA South Region opponent Trinity College of Jacksonville. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 4-7-5 on the season and 3-0 in region play.

From the opening whistle, the Bruins came out with energy. The team wasted no time and just two minutes in, Francesca Aurednik notched the first goal of the game to put the Bruins ahead 1-0. The early momentum continued as Amelia Peters scored her first goal of the season less than three minutes later, assisted by Myleigh Shaw, to double the Bruins lead before Trinity could settle into the game.

In the second half, the Eagles pushed to get back into the game, but the Bruins back line stood firm.

Late in the match, the Bruins capped off their commanding performance when Elli Cummings converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute, giving BJU the final 3-0 victory.

"I am so proud of our team for getting another win against Trinity College of Jacksonville," said Francesca Aurednik. "We possessed the ball and fought hard to get it back when we lost possession. I hope this energy carries over into regionals!"

Also commenting on the game was freshman Amelia Peters who said, "our ball movement and our runs on the attack were so much better today. This was a much needed win, and we saw such hard work from everyone on the team."

"We came out strong today, setting the tone early with two goals in the first half," said Elli Cummings. "Our team brought great energy and intensity right from the start, moving the ball well and creating consistent scoring opportunities. We stayed composed under pressure, communicated effectively, and were able to maintain our lead. In the second half, we continued to push the pace and finished strong. We were able to extend our lead, showing determination and a great team effort from start to finish."

Following the game, Head Coach Chris Carmichael shared his thoughts saying, "I was extremely proud of the team, especially given the very short recovery time we had to get ready. This team is incredibly resilient and despite losing an evenly balanced game last night to a strong NCAA DII team Edward Waters College, they were able to come back and play a strong game with a focus to do the little things with excellence to get the win. We were able to create a sustained attack and many scoring opportunities, and it was awesome to see Amelia Peters notch her first collegiate goal with many more to come. We are ready for regionals and will be ready to work hard to get the win to qualify for Nationals."

Up next, the Bruins travel to Franklin Springs, Georgia on Wednesday for a mid-week match at Emmanuel University.
