The Bob Jones University women's basketball team came up short Tuesday night, falling 71-52 to Brevard College inside the Davis Field House.
As today's game got underway, the two teams kept things close. Both teams opened evenly with an 11-11 tie after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Tornados took control, outscoring the Bruins 15-6 to build a halftime lead of 26-17 over the Bruins.
After the break, Brevard College continued to build on their lead in the third quarter and pushed to a 21 point advantage over the Bruins after 30 minutes of play. The Bruins put together a strong finish with 20 fourth-quarter points, but the rally wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. At the final buzzer, it was Brevard on top 71-52.
Caitlyn Dickerson led the Bruins with 16 points, while Faith Hayward and Jenna Brooks each added nine. Keely Price contributed eight points and five rebounds in the effort.
With the loss, the Bruins move to 2-2Â on the season and will look to bounce back as they prepare for a weekend road match against Meredith College.Â
"Tonight was definitely not the performance that we were looking for or expecting from ourselves," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "Each season we want to be on the road to continuous improvement, and we know there will be setbacks. Tonight was one of those for sure. Out of the five metrics we were using to measure our success, we succeeded in achieving one. When that happens, the result is frustrating as we felt more prepared than what we exhibited. Just like in the classroom, we will use this test to show what we need to work on and go back to the classroom tomorrow and review some really basic but important things that we can't neglect or forget to do."
LeViere continued saying, "I felt our defense in the first half was really good and overall our half court defense is something that we continue to improve in. Our effort is always there, and I'm thankful for that, but our execution has to improve and we need to be disciplined and do our job at all times."
