The Bruins started off their weekend with a win at Regent University after a second-half surge led them to a 72-46 victory.
I think it was more the team settling down on offense [that made the difference]," Head Coach Mike LeViere said. "Our defense was great all night."
The Bruins got off to quite the sluggish start offensively against the Royals scoring only eight points in the first quarter, but found their rhythm in the second quarter and didn't look back. Down by as much as eight points, the Bruins fought and outscored the Royals 22-14 in the second quarter to take a 30-24 half time lead. A big reason for the second quarter success was their ability to score off turnovers and capitalize on their opportunities. In the game, the Bruins had 17 points off turnovers while they held Regent to four.
In the second half, the Bruins continued to soar to their win. They held their lead spread out for the rest of the game. They held the Royals offense to only five points in the fourth quarter helping their lead grow and finish with a 72-46 win.Â
"In the second half we had more controlled drives to the paint and made good decisions from there which resulted in better shots," said Coach LeViere.
After missing some time, Anna Layne Wylder was back on the court and made a big impact scoring 17 points. Also scoring 17 points was Jenna Brooks while shooting 7-11 from the field. The pair led all scorers tonight. Keely Price found double-digits in scoring with 11 while Caitlyn Dickerson, Faith McClary, and Imani Pouncey all scored eight.
The Bruins have a quick turnaround as they play tomorrow afternoon in Elizabeth City, North Carolina against the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Mustangs.
