Bruins Earn Big Win in Jacksonville

The Bruins fought and came away with a big win against the Trinity Baptist College Eagles winning 93-88.

"I was blown away today by our resilience," Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "We had to keep fighting and fighting to pull through for the win today."

The first half was a close game the whole time with the Bruins down. The 20 point first half from Devin Pope helped lead the way for the Bruins and and they were only down one point at halftime with a score of 50-49. The score was close going into halftime but so was the turnover and rebound battle. Each team had eight turnovers and 13 rebounds at the end of the first half.

The Bruins were able to take the lead shortly into the second half and kept it the rest of the game. They held a 14 point lead, but a run by the Eagles brought them all the way back and it was tied 84-84 with only four minutes left in the game. Shad Vander Hart had a huge half scoring 13 points and ripping down eight rebounds. In the final seconds, Trevor Brunson was able to ice the game at the free throw line knocking down both to put the Bruins ahead 93-88. That score held to the final buzzer.

"We were so well rounded today," Coach Uwarow said. "Four guys in double figures and great contributions from the bench. Trevor Brunson had 10, Shad Vander Hart had 15. Devin Pope tied his career high with 28 and Brandon Wilkins scoring 15 off the bench."

Pope and Vander Hart also ended the game with double digit rebounds.

The Bruins are back in action next Tuesday, February 4 as they travel to Warren Wilson to take on the Owls. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
