Eagles Slide Past Bruins in Close 61-60 Result

From Jacksonville, Florida the Bob Jones University women's basketball team dropped a crucial NCCAA South Region game against Trinity Baptist College in a 61-60 decision.

"There's not a lot to say after a disappointing performance," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "Evidently we weren't prepared to compete with excellence, and I have to do a better job preparing us. This was a hard trip as we continue to battle sickness and injuries but there are no excuses."

As today's game got underway, the Bruins got out to a quick lead. Their advantage held through the first 10 minutes as they finished the first quarter on top 19-12.

In the second frame, Trinity Baptist got within three points as they worked to close the gap. Keely Price and Anna Layne Wylder went on a run and racked up 13 straight points for the Bruins. At the end of the second quarter, the Bruins led the Eagles 39-25.

After halftime, the Bruins struggled to find a rhythm. The Eagles forced nine turnovers for the Bruins and outscored Bob Jones 21-9 in the third quarter.

An opening layup by Trinity Baptist in the final quarter knotted the game at 48-48. The score remained close through the rest of the game. With 2:37 left on the clock, Wylder drained a three-pointer to put BJU up 60-59. That score held until 10 seconds remaining where the Eagles made a bucket to put them back on top and into the win column.

Anna Layne Wylder led all players with a season high 24 points. Keely Price finished the contest with 17 points.

Following the game, Coach LeViere said, "we knew the task and just didn't finish it. We have to be focused on being better tomorrow because of what we do today, and I didn't feel like that was the case today. We were outplayed on defense, hustle, rebounding, etc., and I have to make sure that our team is better prepared. Pure and simple."

The Bruins are back in action in the Davis Field House Monday night as they host Southern Wesleyan University for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
