Bruins Fall in Exhibition to Southern Wesleyan University

The Bob Jones University women's basketball team opened the week in the Davis Field House with a Monday night exhibition against Southern Wesleyan University. The Bruins fell to the Warriors with a final score of 102-52.

The Warriors got off to a hot start scoring eight straight before Anna Layne Wylder opened the bank for the Bruins with a three-pointer. The first quarter moved quickly and at the end of the first 10 minutes, the Warriors led the Bruins 37-11.

A three-pointer by Caitlyn Dickerson opened the second quarter scoring. Through the second frame, the Bruins scored 14 points. A late three by Keely Price sent the two teams into the halftime with the Warriors leading 59-25.

After the break, the Warriors continued to outscore the Bruins. At the final whistle, it was Warriors on top 102-52.

"Going into this exhibition game we were trying to work on a few specific things, but I felt like we couldn't get anything going tonight," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "Southern Wesleyan obviously is a tough matchup for us, but we have to be able to compete and win some battles more than we showed in the first half."

He continued saying, "eventually we figured out how to break some pressure and play with some measure of assertiveness and intelligence. It took a while for us to adjust to their pressure. We continue to see some flashes of what we can be and hopefully will fan those flames as we go forward."

When speaking of his team, Coach LeViere said, "Caitlyn Dickerson has been playing really well and had another good game tonight. Diamynd Buckson had some good plays and Jenna Brooks was tough tonight."

It will be a quick turnaround for the women's basketball team as they head to the mountains on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest at Warren Wilson.
