Bruins Drop Road Game to Warren Wilson

The Bob Jones University women's basketball team fell in a 66-54 decision on the road to Warren Wilson College. With the loss, the Bruins now sit at 7-14 on the season.

"We really didn't play poorly, but we didn't shoot as well as we usually do and they shot well," said Head Coach Mike LeViere.

The Bruins got off to a quick 5-0 lead courtesy of points by Jenna Brooks through the opening 40 seconds. They continued to hold onto their lead through the first frame. At the end of the opening quarter, BJU led Warren Wilson 18-9.

An early three-pointer by Anna Layne Wylder opened the scoring in the second quarter. The Owls began chipping away at the Bruins lead and at halftime they only trailed BJU by four points.

After halftime, Warren Wilson made back-to-back buckets to even the score at 28 points a piece. Both teams kept the score close. Caitlyn Dickerson and Anna Layne Wylder drained consecutive three-pointers to give them back the 40-36 lead with 3:16 left in the quarter.  The Owls responded and regained the lead to enter the final quarter ahead 48-42.

Dickerson contributed the early fourth quarter points for the Bruins as they worked to close the gap. With 4:26 left in the game, Brooks hit both of her free throws to make it a one possession game. The Owls outscored the Bruins 11-2 in the final minutes to take the 66-54 win over BJU.

Three Bruins finished the game in double figures with Wylder leading the way with 16 points. Price nearly had a double double as she finished the game with nine points and nine rebounds.

Following the game, Coach LeViere said, "the first half we rebounded well, but in the second half we lost the rebound battle and that really hurt. Thankfully we get some time to recover before getting back in action on Saturday."

The Bruins are back at home this Saturday as they host Mid Atlantic Christian University for a 3 p.m. tip-off in the Davis Field House.
