The Bob Jones University women's basketball team dominated today's game and finished the weekend with a 69-13 victory over the Mid Atlantic Christian University Mustangs. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 8-14 on the season.
"We're happy to get a win," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "One of the things we talked about before the game was that it shouldn't matter if we are up 50 or down 50, up 10 or down 10, our effort needs to be the same. I think we did that today."
Anna Layne Wylder kicked off the contest with a three-pointer. The Bruins went on a 16 point run in the opening five minutes before the Mustangs hit a jumper to get on the board. At the end of the first quarter, the Bruins led the Mustangs 20-3.Â
The second quarter began similarly to the first, but this time it was Jenna Brooks with the opening three-point bucket. Like in quarter one, the Bruins held the Mustangs to just three points and went into halftime with a 27 point lead.Â
At halftime of today's game, the Bruins were pleased to recognize senior Ainsley Hutton for her dedication and contributions to the team.
In the third quarter, the Bruins shot well going 10-19 from the field and 56% from outside the arc. Keely Price, Diamynd Bucksin, and Imani Pouncey were the three contributors in the final frame of the game as the Bruins wrapped up a successful Senior Day with a dominate 69-13 win.Â
Bob Jones held Mid Atlantic to just 9% shooting from the field, while the Bruins shot 36% in today's win. The Bruins out-rebounded the Mustangs 54-25 and recorded a season low nine turnovers.
Keely Price and Jenna Brooks each picked up double doubles with Price finishing the game with 15 rebounds and 12 points while Brooks contributed 10 rebounds and 11 points. Each Bruin that took to the court today, earn points in the win.Â
Following the game, senior Ainsley Hutton shared her thoughts on her time with the women's basketball team. "Looking back at my four years, my favorite time has been on the basketball team with my basketball girls. This has been my core group, and I am very thankful for the opportunity to play for coach."
She shared one piece of advice saying, "give your effort. It's not something that anyone else can see and put a number on, so it's up to you to bring the effort, put it in, and give it to your team because they're worth it."
"Ainsley's impact on the team has been huge," said Coach LeViere. "She's a winner, and she wants to win. We want to compete and win and do that with excellence, and she has been a good example of that. We're going to miss her, but her impact isn't done yet."Â
Up next, the Bruins are back home for a big NCCAA South Region matchup against Trinity Baptist College on Thursday. Thursday's game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. tip-off from the Davis Field House.Â
