Road Warrior Bruins Beat PCC

The Bruins continue to pick up big road victories as they beat the Pensacola Christian College Eagles 69-65.

"This is the toughest place to play in the country at our level," Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "I am really proud of how well we responded after a disappointing game on Thursday."

It took a while for the Bruins to find their stride in the first half offensively, but the defense was strong. They forced 10 turnovers in the half and made the Eagles take some tough shots. The Bruins found themselves in a seven point hole, but clawed their way back to end the half. On offense, Trevor Brunson scored 11 in the first half and helped the Bruins to be only down one at halftime.

The Bruins took the lead right inside the second half and never gave it up the rest of the game. Brandon Wilkins and Shad Vander Hart both had key steals that led to points on the other side. The points were spread to five different guys who all scored at least six points in the half. The Eagles were able to tie the game after going on a quick 9-0 run with just over a minute remaining, but the Bruins got control again and were able to close it out for a big win. The big region game ended in a 69-65 Bruins win.

Trevor Brunson led the way for the Bruins with 18 points. Vander Hart followed with 14 points while also grabbing nine rebounds. Devin Pope and Brandon Wilkins both scored 10 on the night and they also both made big clutch-time free throws.

"We out rebounded them 34-26, and hit free throws when we needed to which was big for us," Coach Uwarow said. "We had another great night with 4 guys in double figures led by Trevor Brunson. Brandon Wilkins was huge off the bench tonight with both defense and offense."

The Bruins return home for their final regular season home game on Monday, February 17 as they welcome in Carolina Christian College to the Davis Field House. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
