Bruins Beat Centurions

After a cool start to today's game, the Bruins were able to jump ahead and beat the Carolina Christian College Centurions 86-52 in their final regular season home game.

"We played tired," Head Coach Burton Uwarow said, "but we have to make better decisions on offense if we are going to win in the postseason."

Besides the first minute of the game, the first half did not go as many expected it to go. The Bruins jumped out front to a 5-0 lead in the matter of seconds, but then fell a little cold. The Centurions were able to keep the game close throughout the half while the Bruins struggled to knock down shots. Conner Barfield had quality first half minutes where he earned three straight trips to the free throw line where he knocked down five of them. Tostadas Pouncey also came off the bench and provided a spark scoring seven points in the half. The Bruins went into halftime with a 35-28 lead.

Both sides of the ball clicked for the Bruins in the second half, and they were able to extend their lead more and more as the half went on. Devin Pope scored 14 in the second half on an incredible 6-7 rate. He finished the night leading the team with 20 points. The Bruins defense was able to force eight turnovers while only committing two on offense in the second half. The lead grew as every Bruin scored. The game ended in a big 86-52 Bruins win.

Along with Pope's 20 points, Shad Vander Hart added 12 and Pouncey followed with 10.

With just one more regular season game, Coach Uwarow is hoping for some rest before then. "I hope this week is a time of mental, physical, and spiritual refreshment for the team," he said.

The Bruins have one more regular season game before the NCCAA South Region tournament starts. That game will be at Warren Wilson College on Saturday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m.
