The Bruins traveled to Asheville, North Carolina to take on the Warren Wilson College Owls and came away with a 100-86 win to close out the regular season.
"It's very nice to have four guys with double figures and have two more with nine points," Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "We got a lot better this week and need to continue that trajectory heading into the region tournament."
The Bruins came into this game with high hopes of coming away with a win. For the most part, the Bruins controlled both sides of the ball. Trevor Pittman continued to be a force on the defensive side coming away with seven steals in the game! This helped the Bruins offense giving them more possessions. They capitalized on that in the first half and went into halftime with a 52-35 lead.Â
The second half was tough for the Bruins in a few moments, but they stayed strong and did what they needed to do to win. The Owls were able to bring the game back within six points, but the Bruins increased their intensity. It went back to a double-digit lead in no time.
Trevor Brunson played incredible and scored a season-high 31 points. His strong ability to drive to the rim and finish through contact really became apparent as he had several and-one makes. He then made it even better by shooting 11-12 from the free throw line. Trevor Pittman and Devin Pope both followed up Brunson as they both scored 14 points. Shad Vander Hart had an efficient day scoring 13, and both Devin Dean and Brandon Wilkins scored nine. The Bruins came away with a 100-86 victory.
"It was a great game for Brunson and the rest of the guys going into the region tournament," said Coach Uwarow. "It is important to note that we are now 12-6 on the year, which is great, but we lost three games by one bucket on our home court. We are that close to being 15-3."
Confidence is high as the Bruins go into the NCCAA South Region tournament next week. The tournament will be hosted at the Davis Field House, so they look to give the home crowd a show and come away with a region championship.
