Baseball Wraps Up Series With 14-10 Loss to Eagles

The Bob Jones University baseball team wrapped up their first road series of the season with a hard fought 14-10 loss to NCCAA South Region opponent, Trinity Baptist College. With today's result, the Bruins now sit at 2-4 on the season.

"This team is full of grit, and I am so proud of them," said Head Coach Kyle Morrison. "They've had their backs against the wall the whole year, and they are continuing to not back down and fight. They did a great job today getting back into the game and not folding."

Following a doubleheader split the night before, the Bruins looked to get off to a good start of today's single nine inning contest.

Conley Burk got the scoring started with a homer in the top of the first inning. Trinity responded with a 2RBI home run in the bottom of the opening inning to take the slight 2-1 advantage.

In the top of the fourth, Evan Johnson singled to center field to bring Mannix Crawford across home. Up next to bat, Conley Burk sent the ball to left field allowing Kyle Prouse to score and see the Bruins to take the 3-2 lead.

The Bruins got into a bit of trouble in the bottom of the fourth inning as well as in the bottom of the fifth as the Eagles recorded four runs in each inning to jump to a big 10-3 lead.

But the Bruins didn't give up. In the top of the sixth inning and with two outs on the board, the Bruins looked to start a rally. After Sam Gonzalez was hit by a pitch followed by a double to left field by Evan Johnson, Conley Burk was intentionally walked to load the bases. Cayden Kennedy was then hit by his pitch to send Gonzalez across home plate and tack on another run for the Bruins. After a pitching change by Trinity Baptist, Cody Kirkpatrick scored Johnson with an RBI single. Two more Bruins were able to cross home plate putting them down by just two runs at the end of their turn at bat.

The Bruins continued to work and put up runs in the final two innings, but in the end it was Trinity Baptist who finished ahead 14-10.

BJU finished the day with 14 hits and two errors.

Following the game, Coach Morrison said, "we've got to make sure we get back to making the routine play. If we had played a clean game today we might've won. We're excited with the team we've got and are looking forward to getting some key guys back from injury."

Up next, the Bruins will be back on their home field at Conestee Park on Tuesday as they welcome Montreat College to Greenville for a 4 p.m. game.
