The Bob Jones University baseball team opened their weekend series with a 22-4 loss on the road to NCCAA South Region rival Toccoa Falls College. With Friday night's loss, the Bruins now sit at 8-18 on the season and 4-6 in region play.
"Today was a brutal game," said Head Coach Kyle Morrison. "We need to regroup for tomorrow, and Lord willing, we'll be able to play sound, fundamental baseball."
Today marked the beginning of the second series this season between the Bruins and Screaming Eagles. The region opponents met at Conestee Park in Greenville on March 21 and 22 where the Bruins won the series in exciting fashion with a grand slam walkoff in game three of the weekend.
Toccoa Falls wasted no time opening the scoring of the weekend series putting up six runs off of three hits in the bottom of the first inning. The Bruins looked to respond in the top of the second, but the Screaming Eagles left two Bruins stranded on base to end the inning with Toccoa Falls still leading. TFC soon jumped to a 9-0 lead after the third inning.
Mac Carroll and Angelo Gomez both walked to get on base and open the top of the fourth inning. They both stole a base to get in scoring position. As Isaiah Brandt came up to bat, he reached first on an error giving Carroll a chance to score and get the Bruins on the scoreboard. Kyle Prouse stepped up to the plate a hit a two RBI single to score Gomez and Brandt to put three runs on the board for the Bruins. The Screaming Eagles responded in the bottom of the fourth with four runs of their own to take a double digit advantage.
Isaiah Brandt flied out to centerfield in the top of the sixth inning giving Mannix Crawford the chance to cross home giving the Bruins their final run of the contest.
Toccoa Falls had a big sixth inning adding nine more runs to their total.
The game concluded after seven innings with Toccoa Falls College on top 22-4.
The two teams are back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon in Toccoa Falls, Georgia.
