The Bob Jones University Bruins clawed all the way back from eight runs down against the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers, but they came up just short losing 11-10 in the elimination game of the NCCAA South Region Tournament.
In a rematch of the first game of the region tournament, the Bruins were looking to keep their season alive with another win against the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers. They started the game exactly how they wanted to. Noah Weaver started on the mound for the Bruins and threw three great innings not allowing any runs. The first run on the board for the Bruins came in the bottom of the second inning when Mac Carroll tallied an RBI on a sac-fly making it 1-0. In the next inning, Conley Burk hit a 2-RBI double extending the Bruins lead to 3-0.
Over the next two innings, the Chargers came roaring back and scored 11 runs. Their bats caught fire and everyone thought the game was out of reach. Kurtis Wess and Evan Johnson both took the mound for the Bruins in relief of Weaver and struggled to get outs; the bats were too good for the Chargers. Conley Burk then took the mound in the top of the fifth inning and silenced the Chargers offense.
Down 11-3, the Bruins kept their heads in the game, and showed immense maturity in their fight to get back into the game. The Bruins got runners on base right away leading to a two RBI single by Cayden Kennedy that brought the game back within six runs. A couple more runners got on base joining Kennedy to load the bases. Sam Gonzales, who has had a hot bat this tournament, stepped to the plate in a big moment with two outs. Even though he was looking for a big hit, he was hit by the pitch. That scored a run making it 11-6. To make this game even more exciting, the Bruins next run came on a balk from the Chargers pitcher with the bases loaded. After Cody Kirkpatrick was walked, the bases were loaded for the third time in the inning. The biggest part of this comeback came when senior Zay Brandt cleared the bases with a three RBI double making it 11-10. The Bruins scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, five of which came with two outs.
Conley Burk went back out on the mound after the huge comeback and pitched incredibly, shutting the Chargers offense down even more in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Bruins had chances to tie and take the lead in each of the last two innings. With runners in scoring position, the Bruins could not get them in to score. The Chargers came away with the 11-10 victory in a wild elimination game.
This valiant effort ended the 2025 season for the Bruins baseball team, and it is nothing they should hang their heads on.Â
