Bruins Can't Outduel Cavaliers on the Road

After a storm in Montreat, North Carolina, the Bruins fell to the Montreat College Cavaliers 4-2.

"We need to learn how not to lose before we learn how to win," Head Coach Greg Fulton said. "We need to learn on how to not give up goals and we have this mentality that we're just going to walk on the field and win automatically."

After a nearly two hour weather delay, the first half began and both teams were shaky defensively. With a slippery field, it only took the Cavaliers three minutes to find a gap in the Bruins defensive line. They were able to find the back of the net to take an early lead. The deficit for the Bruins did not last long, though. Bryce Ramler showed great hustle to pressure the opposing goalkeeper on a drop. After causing the keeper to hesitate, Ramler took the ball and put it in to tie the match. Montreat was able to take the lead back in the 15th minute. Both teams were able to calm down defensively the last 30 minutes of the half, and the 2-1 score held until halftime.

The offense for both teams started the second half just as quickly as the first. It was Bryce Ramler again for the Bruins for his second goal of the match to tie it 2-2. The Cavaliers were able to respond twice more to give them a two-goal lead. Through the last 30 minutes of the match, the Bruins fought and had several good chances to score. They found their form and worked it up the field, but could not finish to make the match closer.

"I think these games are important moments, but we as a team and staff have to be super focused the rest of the season to play to our top form and come away with good results," Coach Fulton said.

The Bruins are back in action on Tuesday, September 23 at Alumni Stadium against Converse University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
