It was another tough loss tonight for the Bruins as they fall to the Valkyries 3-2 at Alumni Stadium in a back-and-forth game.
"I'm proud of the guys work tonight," Head Coach Greg Fulton began. "Tonight is the first time this season that I think we played as 11 unified players."
Going into tonight, the Bruins knew this was going to be a battle with the Valkyries just based off how the previous years have gone. In the first half, Bruins goalkeeper made several incredible saves to keep the Valkyries off the scoreboard. The only goal in the first half, though, was off of an incredible shot by the Valkyries from about 25 yards out. The crossbar was a friend of the Valkyries tonight starting with that goal and continuing later in the match.
The second half brought a crazy amount of energy on both sides. The Valkyries threatened right away trying to give themselves a two-goal lead. They came up short and the Bruins gained a massive amount of momentum on the offensive side. Bryce Ramler continued his great season tonight as he opened the scoring for the Bruins in the 59th minute with an incredible finish to tie it 1-1. Just one minute later, Asher Aurednik made an incredible play. The Bruins cleared the ball up to Aurednik who made a great first touch to win the ball and then another good touch to get away from the defender before getting it past the goalkeeper to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. The momentum seemed like it was going to continue, but the Valkyries continued to push. They had a momentum shifter themselves in the 76th minute tying it up at 2-2. Then just two minutes after that, they were able to score again to take the lead right back. In the final minutes of the match, Noah Burkett put an excellent shot on target off a free kick, but it went off the crossbar. It was Burkett again just minutes later with another shot that went off the crossbar and cleared away. The Valkyries were able to escape the Bruins late threats leading the the Bruins 3-2 loss.
"We're excited about what we're seeing in the growth of mentality of our guys," Coach Fulton said. "We will continue to move forward. Our ultimate goal isn't to win a game midseason; it's to win the last game of the season."
The Bruins are out of the "gauntlet" part of their schedule and face the first region opponent of their season on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. as Carolina Christian College comes to Alumni Stadium.
