The Bruins came away with a big 6-1 win over region opponent Trinity College of Jacksonville at Alumni Stadium.
"There were a lot of good moments and bad moments, but I feel like they fought through the bad moments and times we made mistakes," Head Coach Greg Fulton said. "To put in six goals was huge against a good Trinity team is huge."
The first half was knotted 0-0 for quite some time, but the Bruins continued to possess and look for scoring opportunities. After a couple good saves by the Trinity goalkeeper, the Bruins finally broke through when Fiston Issa cleaned up a bobbled ball in the box to make it 1-0 in the 38th minute. Trinity, though, came right back down the field with fury. Just three minutes later, they tied it back up on a Bruins defensive breakdown in the 41st minute. The fireworks in the first half were not over. Jackson Reinhard placed a shot over the goalkeeper that was out of position in the pocket of the net to give the Bruins the 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Whatever Coach Fulton and his staff said at halftime worked, because the second half was all Bruins. Bryce Ramler was pressuring the Eagles defense all night long and finally took advantage of some sloppy play. He took the ball away from the keeper and tapped it in to extend the Bruins lead. Just ten minutes later in the 64th minute, free-kick specialist Bucky Provenzano unsurprisingly shot a beauty to make it 4-1. In the final six minutes of the match, Jackson Reinhard was able to score his second goal of the match followed by Asher Aurednik finishing the match with a goal himself. The Bruins won this region match 6-1.
"We're staying hungry after this win," Coach Fulton said. "We know this is a team to beat in the region and it's going to be interesting as the region plays out." Indeed it will, especially since the Bruins host the region tournament at Alumni Stadium at the end of the season.
The Bruins come back to Alumni Stadium again on Thursday as they host Point University for a 6:00 kickoff.
