The Bob Jones University Bruins earned a decisive 3-0 victory over Paine College on Thursday evening at Davis Field House, picking up their seventh straight victory. With today's result, the Bruins have improved to 9-9 on the season.
The Bruins took control early with an 8-1 run to start the contest. They maintained their advantage throughout the entire set and quickly took the opening set 25-16.
Some early errors by the Bruins and kills by the Lions put Paine College ahead to start the second set. Their lead didn't last long as the Bruins moved ahead on the scoreboard. After a kill by Alyssa Goebert put the Bruins ahead 13-8, the Bruins didn't stop until they hit 25 points to take the second set with a commanding 25-8 score.
A kill by Lyndsey Cassell put the Bruins on the board first in the final frame. The team was able to once again take control and move to an early advantage. The Bruins never backed down and soon finished their match with a 25-11 set win to compete the 3-0 sweep.
Alyssa Goebert and Lyndsey Cassell led the team with eight kills each followed closely by Paige Altizer with seven while Natalie Treas finished the game with 16 digs.
"We were excited to pick up another win against a very athletic and scrappy Paine team," said Head Coach Anthony Bennett following the game. "Our entire squad did a great job implementing our game plan and staying aggressive with serves and swings. We limited our errors and did a great job at utilizing shots and new plays. I am very proud of everyone tonight! We're looking forward to a big tri-match on Saturday!"
The Bruins wrap up their home campaign with two game on Saturday beginning at noon against Regent University and the University of Toccoa Falls.
