The Bob Jones University women's volleyball concluded the regular season with a 3-0 sweep at Columbia College to improve to a 16-12 record.
As today's contest got underway in Columbia, South Carolina, Columbia College Koalas got on the board first and pulled to an early 3-1 lead. Bob Jones soon overtook the Koalas with a 9-1 run to lead 10-6. After a service error by the Koalas, Blakely Brown finished the set with back-to-back aces to win it 25-12.
After Columbia got to an early advantage in the second set, the Bruins came back to pull into the lead. Bob Jones held the Koalas to just 11 points in the middle frame to lead the match 2-0.
The third set saw the Bruins take an early 5-0 lead. Despite the Koalas working to claw their way back into the match, the Bruins were able to close out the contest on top 25-16 to complete the sweep.
"I am super happy to end the regular season with a sweep," said Head Coach Anthony Bennett. "I was very happy with how we served the ball today, especially in the first couple sets. We could've been more aggressive with our swings and more efficient with our hitter-setter connections but our serve receive and defense were both very clean. It was an overall good win for us, and now we're looking forward to hosting regionals!"
The Bruins return home to the Davis Field House to host the NCCAA South Region tournament on November 6-7. Games are scheduled for 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. on Friday with the region championship being played at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 7. Full tournament information and seeding will be available next week.
