Bruins Open Season With 63-59 Win Over Wolves

The Bob Jones University women's basketball team opened their 2026-27 season with a 63-59 road victory at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.

As today's game got underway, Faith Hayward put the Bob Jones on the board first with an early layup. The Bruins continued to add to their score, and as the opening quarter was winding down, the Bruins scored six straight to pull ahead 16-5. A minute later, Caitlyn Dickerson fouled on the three point attempt and made her free throw to give four points to the Bruins to extend their lead. At the end of quarter one, the Bruins led 22-9.

The lead for Bob Jones held through the first few minutes of the second quarter with a three pointer from Jenna Brooks putting the Bruins on top 27-13. Wesleyan College gained momentum and scored 13 straight points. The Wolves cut down the deficit, but the Bruins held on and led 35-29 at halftime.

The Bruins came out strong in the third quarter and scored 10 straight points, highlighted by two three-point shots by Brooks, and led Wesleyan 49-29. At the end of 30 minutes of play, the Bruins led 51-43.

In the final quarter, Wesleyan opened the scoring and soon tied the game 51-51 with 7:28 left in the game. Free throws by Dickerson, followed by a three-point play by Hayward, put the Bruins back on top. Wesleyan continued to try and close the gap, but the Bruins held strong and finished the contest on top 63-59 to pick up their first win of the season.

Three Bruins finished the game in double figures with Faith Hayward leading the way with 16 points, followed by Jenna Brooks with 15 and Caitlyn Dickerson with 13. Free throws were huge for the team as they went 22 for 27 from the line.

"We are happy to get the win. We've had some good practices and started out strong," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "In the first quarter, we showed what we've been working on and what we're capable of. We had great defense, great shot selection, and great rebounding. We had some lapses and got in foul trouble, which changed the game, but today was an overall great team effort. It took every one of us to finish this game out."

Up next, the Bruins take on Columbia International University for their home opener on Tuesday, November 3 in the Davis Field House.
