The Bruins fought until the final buzzer to try and complete a comeback win, but fell short to the Eagles 74-68.
The first half was even the majority of the time with both teams trading points, but also creating difficult shots on defense. 10 minutes into the first half, the Bruins had a four-point lead after Conner Barfield made a layup on a fast break. The Eagles, though, were able to find open shots and took control in the final minutes of the half. The Bruins found themselves in a 40-30 deficit going into halftime.
The Bruins spent the whole second half trying to claw their way back into the game. Still down 10 points four minutes into the half, the Bruins sparked a little run and were able to bring the deficit down to only one point twice in the second half. Each time the Bruins had a single-possession deficit, the Eagles answered. Shad Vander Hart, Braxton Murray, and Trevor Pittman led the charge in the second half with 31 of the Bruins' 38 points in the half but it wasn't enough. Despite a lot of effort, the Bruins fell 74-68. It was the first time this season that the Bruins were held under 70 points.
The difference in the game was the Bruins inability to capitalize at the rim with several missed layup opportunities.Â
Despite the loss, Shad Vander Hart still played great and led the Bruins with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Trevor Pittman added 15 points with Braxton Murray following with 10 points.
The Bruins have four more games in the regular season before the region tournament coming at the end of the month. They are back on the court on Monday, February 16 as they host Johnson & Wales University in the Davis Field House. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
