Late Push Falls Short as Bruins Drop 66-64 Decision to Eagles

In a thrilling contest, the Bob Jones University women's basketball team narrowly fell to Pensacola Christian College in a contest that came down to the final possession.

As today's game got underway in Pensacola, Florida, the Bruins and Eagles exchanged points early. Halfway through the opening quarter, the Eagles pulled to a seven-point advantage. But the Bruins responded and cut down the deficit. A late three by PCC put them on top 25-19 after ten minutes of play.

Keely Price was fouled early and hit both free throws to open the second quarter scoring. With four minutes left in the frame, Faith McClary sank a three-pointer to put the Bruins back in the lead, 31-30. The Bruins outscored the Eagles 15-9 in the quarter, and at halftime, the teams were even 34-34.

A three-pointer by Jenna Brooks followed by back-to-back made free throws put the Bruins on top 39-34 to open the third quarter. The BJU lead held through the first five minutes until PCC went on a seven point run to regain the advantage. After 30 minutes of play, the Eagles held a ten-point lead over the Bruins.

As the final quarter got underway, the Bruins slowly battled to claw their way back, but with less than five minutes remaining, the Eagles still held a double digit lead. The Bruins held the Eagles without a point in the final five. With 44 seconds left on the game clock, Faith Hayward drained a three-pointer to put the Bruins within two. Right at the buzzer, a three-pointer by Price hit the rim in an effort to win the game. The team fought until the end, but it was the Eagles who took the game 66-64.

Four Bruins finished in double figures with Brooks and Hayward leading the team with 14 apiece, followed by Price with 12 and Anna Layne Wylder with 10.

Following the game, Assistant Coach Sha'Ron Brunson said, "I am proud of us for working hard to stay in the game. We're going to keep working to clean up a few things, but I am very pleased with our effort and fight."

"We appreciate all the fans that came down to support," shared Assistant Coach Gracen Ledford.

The road trip continues for the Bruins as they take on Clinton College in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Monday.
