Second Half Dominance Gives Bruins Big Win

An offensive explosion and defensive shut down in the second half gave the Bruins a huge 110-71 win over the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers. This marks the first time of the season where the Bruins score over 100.

"We have a standard that we hold ourselves to, and we weren't pleased with our focus and effort in the first half," Head Coach Tony Miller said. "That completely changed in the second half and you saw it with every player."

As the game began, the Bruins thought they were going to jump far ahead and stay there. Some defensive struggles, though, kept the Chargers close. The Bruins largest lead in the half mounted to 11 thanks to 13 first half points by Trevor Pittman. Every time that the Bruins extended their lead, the Chargers answered back. The Bruins went into halftime slightly frustrated only up 49-44 and the half time adjustments worked immensely.

The second half was all Bruins. They outscored the Chargers 61-27 and much of that is due to the absolute explosion by freshman Carter McCarn in the final eight minutes of the game. McCarn scored his first points of the night on a three-pointer with just over seven minutes to play in the game, and he ended the night with 25 points on 8-9 from behind the arc! After missing his first shot, he did not miss the rest of the night. That explosion along with 13 second half points by Justin Skelton helped give the Bruins a 39-point victory.

"Carter has had a great week of practice," Coach Miller said after the game. "We have talked about him being prepared when a good time came, and he was definitely prepared tonight."

Three Bruins finished with 20 points or more tonight. McCarn finished with 25 points, Justin Skelton scored 21, and Trevor Pittman stayed hot with an efficient 20 points. Braxton Murray followed with 14 points, and Shad Vander Hart finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Lewis Robertson played quality basketball off the bench tonight for the Bruins ripping down 11 rebounds and playing great defense.

The Bruins now have the night to relax before hitting the court again tomorrow as they welcome the Trinity College of Jacksonville Eagles for a 3:00 p.m. game.
