The Bruins earned their third straight win with a 75-40 victory over NCCAA South Region opponent Southeastern Baptist College Friday evening in the Davis Field House. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 7-9 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
Today's game marked the second meeting this season between the Bruins and the Chargers. At the beginning of the season, the Bruins faced the Chargers in Mississppi where they won in a dominant 81-49 victory.
As today's game got underway, Caitlyn Dickerson got the Bruins on the board with a couple of baskets from the three-point line. The Bruins pushed to a 13-7 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back.
Bob Jones began to separate in the second quarter. Halfway through the frame, the Bruins went on an 11-point run highlighted by three straight threes by the team. In the second quarter, the Bruins outscored the Chargers 23-12 to take a 36-19 advantage into halftime.
Any hopes of a Chargers comeback were quickly erased in the third quarter. The Bruins continued their pressure on both ends, matching their second-quarter output with another 23 points while holding the Chargers to just ten. By the end of the third, BJU had stretched the lead to 59-29.
The fourth quarter opened with Bob Jones going 12-4. The team maintained their lead throughout the final minutes and at the buzzer, the team put up the 75-40 win.
Keely Price led all scorers with 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Imani Pouncey provided a spark off the bench with 15 points, while Caitlyn Dickerson added 12 points to the win. Jenna Brooks chipped in 10 points as the Bruins placed four players in double figures.
Following the game, Assistant Coach Gracen Ledfor said, "today was a great team win. I am proud of the resiliency we have shown lately. We are looking forward to another region matchup tomorrow."
