Eagles Overtake Bruins in Tight 66-65 Decision

The Bob Jones University women's basketball team wrapped up their weekend with a 66-65 loss to NCCAA South Region opponent Trinity College of Jacksonville Saturday afternoon.

The Bruins came into today's game 7-9 on the season after picking up their third straight win against Southeastern Baptist College on Friday. The Bruins and Eagles met in Jacksonville, Florida less than a month ago where Bob Jones dropped another close 66-63 contest.

As today's game got underway, Keely Price opened the scoring with an early layup for the Bruins. Through most of the first quarter, the two teams kept it close exchanging baskets. In the final minutes, Savannah Taylor and Faith McClary each sank three-pointers to put the Bruins on top after one.

Throughout the second quarter, the Bruins were able to maintain their lead despite the Eagles working to close the slight deficit. Heading into halftime, the Bruins led 34-29.

After the break, Trinity College of Jacksonville came out with energy. Five minutes into the third quarter, the Eagles took the one point lead. The Bruins responded and regained the lead until the 1:12 mark. Through the rest of the quarter, the Eagles held the lead.

Trailing by five points heading into the final quarter, the Bruins looked to finish strong. Jenna Brooks went 4-4 from the free throw line to open the last 10 minutes of play. Through the next few minutes, the Eagles came back and expanded their lead to eight points. BJU slowly worked their way back. A layup by Caitlyn Dickerson in the final 45 seconds pulled the Bruins within one point. A turnover in the final seconds kept the Bruins from taking the lead and at the buzzer, it was Eagles on top 66-65.

Wylder finished with a team-high 15 points, while Price and Taylor each added 12.

"We have to take better care of the ball to beat this team," said Assistant Coach Gracen Ledford. "It's a testament to our potential and abilities when we can have as many turnovers as we did and still have a chance to win at the end. This is a good opportunity to improve our resiliency and learn the importance of doing the little things well."

The Bruins are back with another home game on Tuesday, February 10 as the team hosts Johnson & Wales University at 5 p.m.
