The Bob Jones University baseball team wrapped their opening weekend with back-to-back losses on the road against Trinity College of Jacksonville.
The Bruins were back on the field today after fighting for a late comeback in the series opener on Friday. Despite the late effort, the team dropped Friday's game 6-7.
Trinity struck early in the bottom of the first, using an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles then broke the game open with a four-run second inning.
Bob Jones looked to respond in the top of the fourth inning when Henry Rumble collected the Bruins' lone hit of the game with a single to left field, but the rally stalled as Trinity continued to control the pace.
Trinity added seven more runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take the 12-0 win.
After a brief break, the two teams were back in action for game two of the day. In his first at bat of hte day, Evan Johnson doubled to get on base. After Preston Cox was hit by a pitch, Zac Tyre singled to right field advancing Johnson and Cox. Unfortunately, all three were left stranded to end the top of the first inning.
In the bottom of the second, the Eagles got on the board to take the 1-0 lead. The Bruins responded in the top of the third as Henry Rumble crossed the plate off of the sacrifice fly from Tyre.
In the fifth inning, Tyre's RBI double sent Johnson home to get the second run of the game for Bob Jones.
The Eagles continued to add to their total, and after seven innings, finished with the 9-2 win over the Bruins.
"Coming into this weekend, we knew it would be tough facing the runner-up in the NCCAA South Region from a year ago," said Head Coach Kyle Morrison. "Our first game after being stuck inside for two weeks and a day was against an All-American from a year ago. We had a lot of positives with freshman stepping up and making an impact with the bat. We also had nine pitchers this weekend which has never happened as far as I know. We have depth. We just have to get our timing back and leave the results to the Lord."
The Bruins travel to Columbia, South Carolina on Tuesday to take on Columbia International University in a stand alone contest.
