The Bruins could not find an offensive rhythm tonight against the Columbia International Rams, and they fell 3-1 at Alumni Stadium.
"Tonight we showed a little bit of youth and newness," Head Coach Greg Fulton said. "We have a lot to work on and a lot to learn from tonight. I felt like we never gave up, but overall I feel like we have to take these backward steps in the beginning of the season to make it in the end.
Though the Bruins held the majority of possession in the first half of the match, the Rams were the ones to find the back of the net to score first in the 14th minute. After scoring, the Rams held back and played very defensively and the Bruins couldn't get past them. The Bruins kept trying to go over the high defensive line, but had trouble connecting. The halftime score was 1-0.
The Rams came out firing in the second half and nearly scored right away in the 50th minute to extend their lead to 2-0. The second half game plan for the Rams was much different than the first; they kept firing, mounting up to 11 shots in the second half.
The Bruins were able to answer back and have a little life in the 69th minute when Jackson Reinhard scored his first goal of the season to cut the deficit in half. The fight continued, but the Rams put a final goal away to stretch their lead back to two goals. The match resulted in a 3-1 Bruins loss.
Despite the three goals allowed, Bruins goalkeeper Luke Provenzano had several key saves to keep the Bruins close.
The Bruins now look ahead to Tuesday, September 1, when they travel to Point University for a 4:00 p.m. match against the Skyhawks.
