The Bob Jones University Bruins battled Point University to a 2-2 draw Tuesday night in West Point, Georgia. After striking first to take a 2-0 lead, they were unable hold off the Skyhawks who tied it up in the second half.
"First and foremost, I want to say how proud I am of the team," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "We've been working on several things and training to improve as a team, and I felt like they showed up today."
As today's game got underway, the Bruins wasted no time as Bucky Provenzano quickly opened the scoring just 1:05 into the match, finding the back of the net off an assist from Jackson Reinhard. Reinhard then doubled the Bruins' advantage in the 29th minute, scoring off an assist from Provenzano to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, Bruins goalkeeper Luke Provenzano was shown a red card, putting the Bruins down a man for the rest of the game.
After the halftime break, Point began applying pressure and cut into the deficit in the 54th minute off of a converted a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Ryland Summers made several key saves in to keep BJU in front, but the Skyhawks found the equalizer in the 79th minute to even the score 2-2.
Neither team was able to find a game-winning goal during the final minutes as the game ended 2-2 at the final whistle.
Following the game, Coach Fulton said, "for the first 40 minutes of the game we had complete control which was exciting to see. For the last 50 minutes, we were defending a man down, and I felt like the boys showed a ton of heart and character. It was hot, and we had several moments that a lot of teams would give up on, but our team fought through. This is not the result that we wanted, but there are a lot of highlights that we can look at as we move forward in our season."
Up next, the Bruins travel to Virginia for a Saturday contest at Radford University.
