Pioneers Overtake Bruins 3-0

The Bob Jones University fell in straight sets Tuesday night at Spartanburg Methodist College.

As today's game got underway from Bridges Arena in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the Bruins pulled ot a slight 5-2 lead before the Pioneers caught up and the two programs exchanged points before SMC went on a 6-1 run. The Bruins battled throughout the opening set, staying within striking distance of the Pioneers before SMC closed out the frame 25-22.

Early in the second set, the two programs kept it close with the score knotted at nine. Bob Jones struggled to find its rhythm as the Pioneers took a 25-13 victory to move ahead 2-0.

BJU continued to fight in the third set putting together some timely kills, but SMC pulled away late to secure the 25-19 win and complete the 3-0 sweep.

Lyndsey Cassell led the team offensively with nine kills on the day while Alyssa Goebert and Natalie Treas each recorded 11 digs.

"While we weren't happy as a group with the outcome tonight, we are excited at the opportunity to find small wins in all that we do," said Coach Anthony Bennett following today's game. "We are determined as a group, coaches and players included, to keep growing and give 110% every day and allow it to build us up rather than bring us down. We have a big road trip upcoming and we are all looking forward to learning from tonight and putting it into effect."

Up next, the Bruins travel to Danville, Virginia for a weekend at the Cougar Classic.
