Bruins Cross Country Race up the Road at the Furman Invite

On an overcast morning at the Furman Golf Course, the Bob Jones University Bruins took on a competitive field at the Furman Invite 6k, battling through the cool conditions and rolling terrain.

The women's 6k race began the morning with a 9:00 a.m. starting gun. The 2k loop around the golf course presents a few hills that add to the challenge of a longer race than normal for the women's team. Even with the adversity, they still raced hard and stayed in the moment. Senior captain Kristen Dodds was the first to come through for the Bruins with a time of 26:29. Freshman Olivia Reyes moved up a spot in the Bruins top five from last week and finished next at 26:58. Laura Roland came in right behind her with a strong finish up the final hill and crossed the finish line at 27:15. To close the top five, freshmen Arianna Hudson and Kaitlyn Rodman both came in at 27:31.

The Bruins came in sixth out of the seven teams competing.

The men's 6k began shortly after at 9:45 a.m. The sophomore standout Jacob Doshier continued the incredible start to his season leading the Bruins with a great time of 20:06. Senior Daniel Kyle had strong race for himself coming in next for the Bruins at 21:46 which is a 6k personal best. Freshman Eoin Flynn took a step up this morning with a strong race. He crossed the finish line at 22:20. Joram Madrama and Luke VanDenBerghe closed the top five with times of 23:13 and 23:44.

Despite the strong efforts, the Bruins came in seventh out of seven teams.

Full results can be seen here.

One of the country's biggest races lies ahead for the Bruins next week when they travel to NC State to compete in the Adidas Cross Country Challenge on Friday evening.
