The Bruins hosted the Bryan College Lions at Alumni Stadium today, and neither team could score which led to a very hard fought 0-0 draw.
"We are still trying to find a consistent rhythm of play that we are going to need moving forward," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "There's  no lack of effort but we do need to still get technically sharper as our first touch and quality of pass are letting us down, and it's going to be hard to do anything tactically if the technical is breaking down."
The Bruins and Lions play with a very similar style with a deep defensive line and high offense. The midfield play was mostly dominated by the Bruins in the first half, especially at the feet of Amelia Peters who created several plays forward. Both teams had several good chances to score in the first half; both had five shots. Despite the opportunities, the halftime score was 0-0.
The second half mirrored the first but with a lot more offensive attacks from both teams. The Bruins outshot the Lion 8-7 in the second half, but just could not find the back of the net. Both defenses and goalkeepers were very strong against the attacks. Bruins goalkeeper Margaret Provenzano was listed for only three saves but was able to command her box very well. The Bruins had a great chance inside the final minute to score but came up empty. The match ended in a 0-0 draw.
"We played a much better second half and began creating a lot more quality scoring opportunities and had a number of great looks to put the game away," said Coach Carmichael. "Margaret Provenzano played outstanding in goal and kept us in the game with outstanding saves and commanded the box very well. We have a lot of players substituting in that are finding ways to make us better when they're in."
Shannon Miller led the team with four shots and two shots on goal. Julia Hartzler was able to fire away three shots as well.
The Bruins are back on the pitch Tuesday, September 22 when they travel to Erskine College to take on the Flying Fleet.
