The Bruins were not able to answer a second half surge by the Tigers tonight and lose 5-1 in Jacksonville.

"Despite the score, I was extremely proud of the team for never giving up and getting control of the game in the second half," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "Edward Waters is an extremely talented team that has speed, is very technical and dangerous all over the pitch and punished us due to some defensive lapses on the field. Despite this we had many good moments and just need to string those moments together for 90 minutes."

The match did not start in an ideal way for the Bruins. Just three minutes in, the Tigers were able to capitalize on an early chance and take a 1-0 lead. It took a couple minutes for the Bruins to adjust to playing on a football field with extra lines, but they ended up playing comfortably for the majority of the match. They responded to that early goal with several offensive advances up the field but couldn't get a clean shot away.

In the 29th minute, Jane Farr made a key defensive stop on the goal line to keep the Tigers from taking a two-goal lead. Just a little bit later with seven minutes to go in the half, Mady Pfaffenroth delivered a great free-kick cross and Lily Davis scored it to tie the match 1-1. That was Davis's second goal of the year. Unfortunately for the Bruins, it took nearly no time at all for the Tigers to take the lead back before halftime.

The second half started with the Bruins having the majority of possession, and it felt like they were going to tie it again. Amelia Peters made several great runs up the left wing and made good crosses but couldn't connect with a teammate. The Tigers found a little bit of an offensive rhythm and were able to extend their lead in a big way. They scored three goals in 10 minutes to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Despite the score, the Bruins were still holding great possession. Shannon Miller played great in the midfield having good command and passing. They weren't able to find the net again and the final score was 5-1.

The Bruins had seven shots, five of which were on goal.

After the match, Coach Carmichael had more to say: "Once we stay laser focused on tracking players in our defensive third and stepping quicker with control we will have very few goals against. Had we done that I believe we could have had a better result but hats off to EWU for playing a great match and there were so many more positives that we will build upon as we continue to grow and strengthen as a team."

It's a quick turnaround for the Bruins as they stay In Jacksonville for another match tomorrow against region opponent Trinity College of Jacksonville. The match begins at noon.
