Bruins Fall to Warriors 3-0

Team winning streak stops at five

Box Score
The Bruin women took the field on Monday night having won their last five matches. They faced a Southern Wesleyan Warriors  squad who had lost their previous five matches. As both teams took the field the cool crisp October air signaled a great match between the two squads.

From the opening kickoff, both teams sought to maintain possession and the teams went back and forth exchanging shots and opportunities to score. Despite the cold weather, both teams showed great control and made crisp passes. As the first half wore on, the Warriors and Bruins were looking for that one play that would break the scoreless tie. Eventually it would come from the foot of Ashley Witherspoon as she fired a shot past Bruin goalie Tori Anderson to put the Warriors up 1-0 late in the first half. Less than a minute later, Witherspoon scored her second goal of the match to put the Warriors up 2-0 at the break.

"We just couldn't put one in," Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We had many opportunities to score, but couldn't finish."

As the second half began, the Bruins sought to go on the offensive to cut into the Warriors lead. Despite their maintaining possession, the Bruins struggled to get shots on goal as the Warriors outshot the Bruins 30-4 in the game. Late in the second half, the Warriors scored another goal to go ahead 3-0 and that would be the final score as the final horn sounded.

The loss breaks the Bruins five-game winning streak, but Coach Carmichael was happy with the performance tonight. "We played a very skilled team," Coach Carmichal said. "Our girls fought very hard all the way to the end." The ladies move to 7-8 on the year and will come back home for a matchup on Tuesday night against the University of Pikeville at 6:00 p.m.
