The Bruins women's soccer team will begin their regular season at home this Saturday night with a match against Emmanuel College. In their inaugural season, the Bruins played their first ever preseason match against Emmanuel in which they lost 5-1. The team showed its improvement as they played Emmanuel in the playoffs, with Emmanuel narrowly taking the win, 2-1. At the start of a new season the Bruins are intent on turning the tables and walking off the field with a win. Head coach Chris Carmichael is encouraged by the team's growth since the last time they matched up against Emmanuel.
"We continue to get better with our possession play, combination work and off-the-ball movement and just general mobility," Carmichael said. "We also have good depth and a freshman class that has the potential to contribute to our program."
The women are confident and have high expectations going to into the regular season. For the women to come away with a win on Saturday Carmichael said matching speed and pressing the opposing team will be important. "Collectively we are going to have to have a good possession rate compared to Emmanuel and capitalize on any opportunities we have to get quality shots on frame."
The match starts at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. Students and Faculty/Staff receive free admission with their BJU ID card. For general admission ticket prices go to bjubruins.com.
