The Bruins were on the road Thursday night as they traveled to Toccoa Falls College for a matchup with the Eagles. The Bruins were coming off an impressive 4-1 win over Piedmont College on Tuesday night for their first win of the 2013 season. The Eagles came into the match on Thursday night with a 1-4 record. Their most recent match was a loss against Emmanuel College. The Bruins and Eagles met during BJU's inaugural season where the Bruins got the upper hand in a 3-0 win. The Bruins were looking for another win as they took the field against TCC.
As the game began, the Bruins wasted little time as Matt Moore received a beautiful pass and buried a goal in the back of the net less than 25 seconds into the game. A few minutes later, Moore struck again to put the Bruins up 2-0 and in the driver's seat. Cam Lawson was in net for the Bruins as the defense stood strong and didn't allow the Eagles to take shots. The Bruins executed great possession as the team switched up their offensive strategy. Travis Woodham stretched the Bruins lead to 3-0 after netting a goal and the Bruins continued to pressure the Eagles net. At the half, the Bruins had a commanding 3-0 lead.
"We had many good things going on offensively tonight," Coach Jesse McCormick said. "We came ready to play as a team and it showed on the field tonight."
In the second half, the Bruins kept up the pressure and continued to barrage the Eagles net with shots. On the defensive end, the Bruins squelched out every offensive opportunity for the Eagles to keep the clean sheet. In the middle of the second half, Matt Moore completed the hat trick by scoring his third goal of the game. A few minutes later, John Wilson added another goal to put the Bruins up 5-0. With the game in hand, the Bruins continued to control possession and work their offense. The final buzzer handed the Bruins their second straight win with a 5-0 victory over Toccoa Falls.
"We took a great step tonight," Coach McCormick said. "We played very well as a team which helped us offensively."
Matt Moore led the way with three goals. Moore has now scored five goals in the last two games. The Bruins picked up their first clean sheet of the season and improve to 2-2 on the year. Although the Bruins will relish in their victory, the team will need to rest and refocus quickly. The Bruins have outscored their opponents 9-1 in their last two games and will look to continue their offensive hot streak when they host the Skyhawks of Point University on Friday night at Alumni Stadium.
