Box Score The Bruins shooting struggles continued on Saturday afternoon as the team shot just 13% in the 2nd half in a 76-40 loss to Emmanuel College. "Right now we are a losing basketball team," Coach Neal Ring said. "There are a lot of factors in that. I have to do a better job as a coach and our players have to do a better job as well. The nice thing about going into break is we have the opportunity to have a fresh start when we come back."
Noah Smith scored 14 points, but the Bruins struggled
offensively in a 76-40 loss to Emmanuel College. The Bruins and Lions met earlier in the season with Emmanuel College capturing a 92-51 win in Georgia. The Bruins entered Saturday's game with a 3-10 record having lost their last 8 games. The Bruins would be without Kyle and Corey Turner for this game which would hurt them offensively.
From the opening tip, the Lions came out strong to open with a 6-0 run and establish momentum. The Bruins countered with the play of Camden Jones and Ray Holden to climb back into the game. The team allowed the Lions enough space to get into the lane and gave Emmanuel College 14 free-throw attempts throughout the first half.
After back to back three's by Camden Jones and Noah Smith, the Bruins finished off a 7-0 run and climbed back to 25-20. The Lions responded by closing out the half strong, and took a 35-24 lead into the break.
"We had some things we were trying to do and frankly we weren't accomplishing them," Coach Ring said. "For periods of time I thought we played really well and then at other times we didn't get the shots we were looking for and forced some other shots."
In the second half, the Lions came out strong again with a 14-2 run to add to their lead. The Bruins tried to get back into the game, but the shooting woes were very apparent as the team's open looks didn't fall. The team was also crippled by 22 turnovers which turned into 21 points for the Lions.
The Lions continued to pour it on as the team shot 53% from the floor in the second half to keep control. When the dust settled, the Lions handed the Bruins their 9th straight loss 76-40.
"I challenged our team to come back as better ball players as I am going to try to come back as a better coach," Coach Ring said. "We're creating a culture of losing and I didn't think this team had to come into this season and lose like we are. We have to be better players and better as a team. The break is going to be good for our players to get some rest physically and mentally.
Noah Smith was the only player in double figures for the Burins with 14 points. Camden Jones and Marshall Riddle each scored 8. The Bruins were outrebounded in the game 47-20. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 3-11 on the season. This was the last game of the semester for the team as the Bruins will now have a few weeks off for Christmas break. Their next game will be on the road in 2015 as the Bruins take on Washington Adventist University on January 8th.
