The red-hot Lady Bruins continued their winning ways on Tuesday night as the team won its third straight match with a 3-1 victory over conference rival Toccoa Falls College. Abby Davis scored a pair of goals to lead the team to victory in front of the hometown fans of Alumni Stadium.

"We were coming off two good wins so we knew we needed to just keep doing what we were doing," Coach Chris Carmichael said. "It was a great match and Toccoa Falls has really stepped up their game. This was a good win for us. We needed it, and it gives us more momentum heading into this weekend."

3-1 victory over Toccoa Falls Tuesday night.
The Bruins knew a lot was riding on this match as they welcomed the Eagles to Greenville. The Bruins had fallen to Toccoa Falls College earlier this season in a difficult 1-0 loss on the road. The two teams have a history of close matches, and the same would be true on this night as the Eagles and Bruins were set to square off.

In the opening minutes, the Bruins came out with good passing and possession as they moved the ball into the attacking third. Abby Davis and Mimi Lozano were able to get off several shots in the early stages, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Bruins looked to control the pace of the game, and kept possession on the attack for the majority of the half.

The Eagles slowly began to counter and in the 32nd minute, they caught a break as Lizz Rice lofted a shot that was misplayed by Bruins' goalie Kristen Haertlein to put the Eagles up 1-0. Determined to not let history repeat itself, the Bruins tried to get back into the game. Just six minutes later, Kaitlyn Hummel bent across into the middle which was settled by Mimi Lozano. Lozano maneuvered her way around the Eagles defense and buried the shot with a great individual effort to tie the game 1-1 going into the break.

"We were being outplayed in every way and we needed to play with passion and dig deep for whatever energy they had left," Coach Carmichael said. "It was more of a mental thing and we just needed to come out stronger, but getting that goal late was huge for us. We had a little chat at halftime and we challenged them to come out better."

The Bruins took the challenge from their coach and came out strong in the opening minutes of the second half. The team executed crisp passing and worked the ball into position to score. Jenn Wise nearly notched a goal off a free kick but it was tipped just wide. In the 51st minute, Caralise Roach drove past the defense on the far side and sent a beautiful centering pass which was redirected into the back of the net by Abby Davis to put the Bruins up 2-1.

The Eagles began to try to claw their way back into the game, but the Bruins remained poised and turned away each opportunity. With play winding down, the Bruins put the exclamation point on a huge win as Abby Davis scored again to give the Bruins a key 3-1 victory over Toccoa Falls College.

"We're back where we need to be and we have a ton of confidence," Coach Carmichael said. "We just need to be consistent throughout the match and play with a lot more pace and the way we know we can."

Abby Davis led the Bruins with 2 goals on the night. She has now scored 6 goals in the past 3 games. Mimi Lozano scored and Caralise Roach and Kaitlyn Hummel each recorded an assist. The Bruins outshot the Eagles 23-6 including 8 shots on frame. The team recorded its third straight win and improves to 6-8 on the season and 4-1 in conference play. Next up, the Bruins will host Kentucky Christian University on Friday night.
