Box Score The Bob Jones University men's soccer team scored two goals in the first half and two goals in the second half to come away with a 4-1 victory over Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa Falls, Georgia on Friday night.
"I have to give a lot of credit to Toccoa Falls because they made us earn everything tonight," Coach Jesse McCormick said. "We played very well other than one lapse defensively."
The Bruins were coming off a 2-0 shutout on Thursday night and were looking for back-to-back wins as they took the pitch at Toccoa Falls. The two teams had met earlier in the season in Greenville with the Bruins coming away with a 6-0 win.
As the match began, the Bruins possessed well out of the gate and got things going early on as John Wilson found AJ Redlinger for a beautiful shot to put the Bruins up 1-0. The Bruins kept up the pressure and extended their lead after Ryan McCarty netted his 3rd goal of the season to put the team up 2-0. The Bruins looked to be in control of the game, but a defensive mistake handed the Screaming Eagles a goal of their own to get back into the game 2-1. Both teams looked to punch one more in before the half, but the buzzer sent the teams to their benches with the score 2-1 in favor of BJU.
In the second half, the Bruins fortified their defense and worked the ball up the field with good combination play. Ryan McCarty found Jared Simmons ahead of the defense and Simmons finished the play to put the Bruins up 3-1. Later on, John Wilson would provide the exclamation point on the Bruins 4-1 win with a rocket shot to put the Bruins up for good as the team held on for a win on the road.
"Our midfield did a great job on both sides of the ball," Coach McCormick said. "It was nice to see some good combination play as well."
Ryan McCarty led the way for the Bruins with 1 goal and 2 assists. John Wilson notched one goal and one assist while Jared Simmons and AJ Redlinger each scored for the Bruins. Dundas Clark made his second straight start in goal for the Bruins and had 4 saves on the night while the Bruins outshot the Eagles 15-3 throughout the match. Next up, the Bruins begin a six-game homestand as they welcome Point University on Tuesday night.
