John Wilson's hat trick helped to fuel the Bruins offensive attack as the team had a statement win over Toccoa Falls College 7-0. With the win, the Bruins advance to the NCCAA DII South Region Championship on Saturday at 2 p.m.
"It was great to see us get some things going offensively tonight," Head Coach Jesse McCormick said.
The Bruins came into the region playoffs as the #1 seed and they showed it on Thursday night with a convincing win. Even with forward Stephen Grider not able to play due to injury, the Bruins had several players step up for their first clean sheet of the season.
In the early stages of the match, the Bruins came out with good ball movement as they created opportunities on the Eagles net. It didn't take long for the Bruins to get on the board as Marvell Lareche threaded a pass to Jared Simmons who finished the play to make it 1-0. Just minutes later, Simmons struck again to make the score 2-0.
From there, the Bruins offense continued to ride momentum as they controlled the pace of play throughout the half. John Wilson joined the scoring stat line at the midway point of the half as he scored off an assist Jesse Rush to make it 3-0. The Bruins added one more just before the break as Justin Woodham scored his first goal as a Bruins to give the team a 4-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Bruins came out again with a lot of confidence as their passing was crisp and their runs on frame were consistent. John Wilson scored his second goal of the match to make it 5-0. Wilson completed the hat trick with his third goal off an assist from Karl Walker as the Bruins continued to pour it on. Will Moy scored the final goal for the Bruins as the team played a great game on both sides of the ball to come away with a dominant 7-0 win.
"We're looking forward to the championship match on Saturday," Coach McCormick said. "We'll need to come out ready to play."
John Wilson led the Bruins with three goals while Jared Simmons scored twice. Jesse Rush and Andrew Peterson each had two assists on the night while Andrew Kester picked up his first clean sheet of the season. The Bruins will face #2 seeded Trinity Baptist College on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Trinity defeated Pensacola Christian College 2-1 in the semi-final match.
