Lions Late Rally Hands Bruins 3rd Straight Loss

Box Score

Costly mistakes down the stretch handed the Bruins their 3rd straight loss as the team fell to Emmanuel College 98-93 on Tuesday night in Greenville, South Carolina.

"Emmanuel has a great basketball program," said Coach Ring. "They showed a lot of heart coming back in the 2nd half after we were able to jump out to a lead. I am disappointed in our guys not getting the win after they played so hard."

Both teams traded baskets in the opening as neither was able to gain a large lead. The Bruins rode the hot hand of Marshall Riddle and Quez Fisher early on as the duo powered the Bruins offense. The team also forced tough looks from the Lions, but EC refused to back down as the score remained close. The Bruins were able to close out the half strong as they took a 44-36 lead into the break.

In the second half, Bruins' forward Tre Tipton picked up his 3rd and 4th fouls early on as the Bruins held on to a slim 55-48 lead. That ended up being a turning point for the Lions as EC went on a 15-4 scoring run after that via back to back threes from Colton Collins and Ronnie Stanley to take a 63-59 lead.

After a timeout called by Coach Ring, the Bruins stepped up the intensity on the defensive end of the floor. Marshall Riddle and Quez Fisher both got steals to get the team going in transition for easy points. With four minutes remaining in the game BJU held a 85-80 advantage. Collins again came through in the clutch for the Lions with two more three-pointers to put Emmanuel in position to close out the game.

The Bruins had several chances to even the score, but several costly turnovers in the final possessions coupled with the Lions clutch free throw shooting allowed the Lions to hang on for a 98-93 victory.

Colton Collins led the way for Emmanuel College with 21 points, making seven of his ten three-point attempts. Austin Greene and Emerson McClung both had 20 points each. For the Bruins, Quez Fisher led the way with 24 points and 13 rebounds while shooting over 70% from the floor. This was the 3rd straight double-double for the Bruins big man in the last three games. Marshall Riddle finished the game with 20 points.

With the loss, the Bruins fall to 2-10 on the season. The team will have a chance to bounce back after tonight's loss with a home game on Friday night against Piedmont College.
