Box Score The Bruins basketball team extended their winning streak to five straight games as the one-two punch of Marshall Riddle and Quez Fisher helped power the team to an 88-73 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday night in Greenville, South Carolina.
"I love the depth we have on this team," Bruins guard Marshall Riddle said. Riddle finished with 31 points on the night. "We have a lot of scoring weapons and it really challenges the defense."
Riddle was coming off the heels of another 31 point performance in the Bruins victory over Pensacola Christian College on Friday night and he picked up right where he left off with 20 first-half points to help fuel the win. The Bruins also got a great performance from big-man Quez Fisher as he scored 21 points and added 15 rebounds.
"Our point guard Nate Ellenwood out-rebounded me in the last game, so that gave me extra motivation to play better tonight," Quez Fisher jokingly said after the game.
The Bruins jumped out to an early lead, but the Wildcats came back off the scoring touch of Rickey Porter, who finished the night with 24 points and 11 rebounds for JWU. But the Bruins wouldn't be denied as six three-point bombs from Marshal Riddle helped the Bruins take a 44-31 lead into the break.
As the teams came out in the second half, the Bruins again stretched their lead and led by as much as 25 points in the second half. But the Wildcats wouldn't go away easily as they went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead back to 71-60 with just over seven minutes remaining. But Riddle and Fisher provided the buckets down the stretch as the Bruins held on for a 88-73 win.
"Our guys continue to buy in to what we are doing defensively," Bruins Head Coach Neal Ring said. "I thought we did a great job tonight in limiting their opportunities and freeing up Marshall and others on offense. Proud of our effort tonight."
Marshal Riddle scored 31 points on the night while shooting 50% from the floor. Quez Fisher added another double-double to his stat line this season as he was dominant on both sides of the ball. Dustin Killough was the only other Bruin in double figures with 11 as the Bruins improve to 8-15 on the season.
Next up, the Bruins will welcome Columbia International University on Friday night at 8 p.m.
