Bruins and Rams End in 0-0 Draw on Senior Night

Box Score
The Lady Bruins battled Columbia International University for 90 minutes and two extra time periods but the two teams ended the match as they began it with a 0-0 draw on Friday night at Alumni Stadium.

"It was a good game and CIU is playing at a very high level," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We created a lot of opportunities to finish the game and just couldn't do it."

It was an evenly played match as both teams had several scoring opportunities throughout the night. Both BJU and CIU had a total of 14 shots and two corner kicks. Perhaps the best scoring opportunity of the night came right before halftime. As time was about to expire, senior forward Kaitlyn Hummel fired a shot right at CIU's goalkeeper which was saved as the clock expired.

At halftime, the team honored the eight seniors on the team this year. Sarah Herr, Lauren Foushee, Anna Daulton. Meagan Hummel, Paige Englehart, Ally Jenkins, Kaitlyn Hummel, and Brooke Hummel all made a great impact on the team throughout their four years at BJU.

"They truly have been the heartbeat of our program and have been instrumental in our success over the last four years," said Coach Carmichael. "They all set the bar high for who we are and what we need to be."

The Columbia International offensive attack tested the Lady Bruin defense as seven of their fourteen total shots came in the second half. Goalkeeper Jessica Baun proved to be up for the challenge has she recorded seven saves on the night.

In the overtime period, Abby Davis and Mikayla Rajcan were able to break past the Rams defense but were unable to convert. "You have to give lots of credit to the defensive play of both teams," said Coach Carmichael. "Both teams created lots of scoring opportunities but the defense stepped up to the challenge."

Despite numerous chances for both teams, the buzzer ended the second overtime period with the score tied 0-0. The Lady Bruins end the regular season with an 8-9-1 record. The team earned the #1 seed for the NCCAA DII South Region Tournament which will be next weekend in Jacksonville, Florida. The Bruins will play in the Region Championship on Saturday against the winner of #2 Trinity Baptist College and #3 Toccoa Falls College.
