Bruins Snap Losing Streak with 2-1 Win Over Eagles

Box Score
The Bruins men's soccer team bounced back in a big way on Tuesday night as the team picked up their first region win of the 2017 season with a 2-1 overtime victory over Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia.

"It was a very good team effort tonight," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick said. "I was really pleased with the possession and ball movement. We created many quality chances on goal but struggled to find the back of the net. Those goals will come as we continue to create quality chances like we had tonight."

Coming into the match, the Bruins had dropped four straight games and had been held scoreless for the past three matches. The team was looking to bounce back as they took the pitch to battle the Eagles who entered the match with a 1-4 record.

In the opening minutes, the Bruins were able to possess well as they worked the ball into the attacking third. Karl Walker came up big for the Bruins as the junior had a brilliant goal to give the team a 1-0 lead. The Eagles tried to find the equalizer but the first half ended with the Bruins up 1-0.

As the second half began, the hometown crowd tried to rally their team to draw even. The Bruins did a good job defensively in turning aside the Eagles scoring attempts and clearing away loose balls in front of the net. The Eagles would find the equalizer as a goal in the 2nd half tied the game at 1-1. The Eagles fans went crazy as they knew they had grabbed momentum. Both teams battled hard down the stretch but the final buzzer sent the match into extra time with the score even at 1-1.

In the overtime period, the Eagles nearly upset the Bruins as a shot ricochet off the post. Dodging a bullet, the Bruins regrouped and headed back on the attack. Jared Simmons would be the hero on the night for the Bruins as the senior netted the game-winning goal to give the Bruins a 2-1 victory.

With the win, the Bruins improve to 2-5 on the season and 1-0 in region play. Next up, the team will return home for a matchup against John Wesley University on Saturday night.
