Abby Davis' four goals and one assist led the BJU Bruins to a 5-0 homecoming win over Kentucky Christian on senior night. With today's win the Lady Bruins improve to 7-4-2 on the season.
For the seniors, this was their last home game of the regular season. Jessica Baun, Caralise Roach, Abby Davis, Sarah Epperson, and Grace Hoffman were honored at halftime for their excellent four year careers as Bruins.
"Each of our seniors played an important role for our program," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "They were great examples both on and off the field."
From the opening kick, BJU was able to dominate the battle of possession. The Bruins out shot the Knights 15 to 2 in the first half and 30 to 5 throughout the match. Eight minutes into the match senior Abby Davis was able to get the Bruins off to an early lead. Davis was able to beat the Knights' back line, and powered a shot past the goalkeeper Savanah Brewer to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.
In the 29th minute, Abby Davis was able to connect with freshman Ali Sigmon on a through ball, Sigmon was able to tap it in to push the Lady Bruin lead up to 2-0.
"We had great execution offensively," Coach Carmichael said. "Our ability to possess the ball led to many scoring opportunities."
The Lady Bruins carried over that same momentum into the second half. Four minutes in, Abby Davis once again escaped the Kentucky Christian defense for a goal-scoring opportunity. Davis' shot deflected off goalkeeper Savannah Brewer's hands and into the back of the net, extending the lead to 3-0.
In the 54th minute the Lady Bruins continued to build on their lead. Junior midfielder Bailey Martin was able to thread the needle on a through ball to Abby Davis, whose goal made the score 4-0, her third of the match.
With two minutes left in the match, Abby Davis was able to score her fourth goal of the day. Davis' shot was caught by goalkeeper Savannah Brewer, but as she went to catch it, the ball bobbled out of her hands and over the goal line to give the Lady Bruins their 5th and final goal of the match.
"It was a great team win today," said Coach Carmichael. "Getting a win on senior night and homecoming is something to be proud of."
The BJU Lady Bruins will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Demorest, Georgia to take on Piedmont College.
