Bruins Wrap Up Fall Season with 9th Place Finish at Alice Lloyd College Eagle Invitational

The Bruins golf team battled a tough tournament field to finish 9th overall at the Alice Lloyd College Eagle Invitational in Cohutta, Georgia. The tournament marks the last for the team for the fall season.

"We fell short of some of our team goals, but still feel we had some positive takeaways from this final tournament of the fall season," Bruins Head Coach Denny Scott said. "A number of team members achieved their personal best in competition this fall, but not enough of them did on the same day for us to reach those team goals."

The Bruins came into their final tournament after placing 9th at the Piedmont College Invitational October 14-15. For this tournament, the Bruins would be matched up against some strong competition with ten other teams making up the field.

In the opening round, the Bruins struggled out of the gate as the team had to settle for a few bogeys. Grant Bagwell gave the team a spark with a great birdie on hole fourteen. Keaton Osteen helped to give the team a boost as well with a birdie on the 11th hole.

Unfortunately, the Bruins couldn't close the opening round strong as the team finished with a score of 321 (Osteen - 79, Bagwell - 79, Wiginton - 80, Jacobs - 83, Childrey - 83). The score put the Bruins in 10th overall on the leaderboard.

In the final round of the tournament, the Bruins looked to come out and improve on their opening day score. Isaac Childrey started with back to back pars to open the day while Bagwell nearly recorded eagle on the 16th hole on his approach, but recorded birdie instead. As the team made the turn they looked to carry the momentum and finish well.

Haddon Wiginton recorded two birdies on holes four and five but the Bruins struggled down the stretch as the team had to settle for a team score 328 (Wiginton - 80, Jacobs - 81, Bagwell - 82, Childrey - 85, Osteen - 85). While the Bruins were able to move up one spot on the leaderboard, they couldn't climb further as the team finished 9th overall.

"In spite of not reaching some of our goals this fall, I feel there is a positive energy and concentrated focus towards our spring season," Coach Scott said. "The team knows there is plenty of room for improvement and they have a better idea of where they are and where we need to be to reach our goals."

While the Bruins finished the fall season of competition, the team will look forward to competing in several events this Spring.
