Two Bruins Golfers Finish in the Top Ten at Golden Tiger Collegiate Invitational

In their second tournament of the Spring season, the Bruins golf team turned a solid performance at the Golden Tiger Collegiate Invitational in Gainseville, Georgia on Monday and Tuesday.

Brandon Autry, Eli DeVaughn, Dakota Holt, Connor Hairgrove, Bryce Coursen, and Grant Camfield represented the Bruins in a field of 60 golfers.

As the competition got underway on Monday, the Bruins started on the back nine where they had a solid start. Before the turn, Hairgrove had the first birdie of the day for the Bruins on the 14th par-five hole. As the Bruins moved to the front nine holes, the team continued to play well and saw three more birdies by Coursen, Autry, and Holt.

At the conclusion of Round One, Autry finished with a score of 78, followed by Holt and Hairgrove each with 81, Coursen and DeVaughn each added 83 to the total. The Bruins sat in third place overall with a team score of 323.

Back on the course on Tuesday, the Bruins opened Round Two with six straight pars before DeVaughn secured the first birdie of the day on the par-four, seventh hole. On the back nine, the Bruins added two more birdies coming from Autry and Camfield.

With Round Two complete, the Bruins had two top-ten finishes with Autry and DeVaughn leading the Bruins with a two-day score of 156 finishing tied for seventh. Holt finished four strokes behind with a score of 160, followed by Hairgrove at 170, Coursen at 173, and Camfield with a 178.

The team wrapped up the tournament with a score of 642 to finish in sixth out of 10 competing teams.

Following the tournament, Head Coach Denny Scott said, "we accomplished one of our goals in improving our team score from Round One to Round Two, but unfortunately we slid down the leaderboard. The improvement was not as significant as it needed to be to hold our position."

He continued saying, "Truett-McConnell was clearly the strongest team in the field, but we were in that next group of teams that were pretty tightly grouped. We had an opportunity to finish in the top two or three teams, but didn't have our "A" game. There were many highlights and some solid improvements even though we are still pretty early in the Spring season.
Eli DeVaughn's one-over par round of 73 was a personal best for him in Round Two and was one of those significant highlights. Having him and Brandon both finish in the top-ten individually (T7) was also significant. Certainly the other guys are also capable of similar rounds, but we just need to get them all to do it on the same day."
