Bruins Maul Scotties for Sixth Straight Win

The Bruins volleyball team won their sixth straight match on Tuesday night as the team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. Victoria Glaze led the Bruins with 12 kills and 8 digs to go along with 4 aces in the win.

"It was a great team effort tonight on the road," Bruins Head Coach Vickie Denny said. "We were able to play within our system and got some solid minutes from our bench."

The Bruins came into the match on the heels of a strong performance on Tuesday night as the team swept Johnson & Wales University in their final home match of the regular season. The Bruins came into Thursday's match with confidence as the team had won eight of their last ten matches.

Earlier this season, the Bruins had faced Agnes Scott College in Greenville with the Bruins sweeping the Scotties in straight sets. ASC was looking to get back on track as the team carried a seven-match losing streak into Thursday's match.

In the opening set, the score remained close before a pair of aces by Victoria Glaze helped the team jump out to a 10-3 lead. The Scotties responded with three straight points but the Bruins then went on a 12-0 run thanks to an ace from Courtney Campbell and kills from Camila Silva, Victoria Glaze and Emma Riddle, as the team led 23-7. The Scotties tried to answer back but the Bruins finished off set one winning 25-10.

The Bruins had seized momentum and it showed as the team used pinpoint serving to once again jump out to an 8-1 lead. Again, the Scotties tried to answer back as kills from Carmen Ross and Jada Bryant helped narrow the margin to 13-8. The Bruins again responded well to stop the run as they went on to close out set two scoring five of the last six points of the match in a 25-12 win.

In set three, the Bruins came out looking to complete the sweep. The two teams traded points early on before the Bruins scored four straight points to take a 10-4 lead thanks to an ace from Emily Via and a kill from Courtney Campbell. The Bruins continued to maintain a large lead as they continued to pick apart the Scotties defense for points. An 11-1 run put the match out of reach as Victoria Glaze served back to back aces to win set three 25-10 and the match 3-0.

The Bruins were able to find their rhythm offensively as the team finished with 31 kills and 12 aces in the win. Defensively, Kaitlyn Landkrohn and Courtney Campbell combined for 29 of the team's 49 digs in the match. With the win, the Bruins improve to 20-4 on the season.

Next up, the Bruins will be on the road again on Tuesday night as they play the first of three straight NCCAA DII South Region matchups as they face Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia.
