Four Cross Country Runners Earn All-American Honors

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) awarded four Bob Jones University Bruins cross country runners with All-American Honors.

The selections for the All-American team are based upon finishing results at the NCCAA DII National Championship Meet with the top-5 finishers being awarded the honor.

The championship meet took place this past Friday, November 12 in Joplin, Missouri, with the Bruins winning both the men's and women's DII national titles.

"Each of these members put in solid consistent conditioning over the preseason," said Head Coach Ken Roach. "They set the race pace and presented themselves the opportunity and delivered with confidence. It's great to have them represent this team with an All-American status."

For the women, freshman Sarah Alferink finished first overall with a time of 19:26 to earn her first All-American title. Senior Nicole Fox earned her first All-American honor finishing fifth with a time of 20:08. It was a good showing from the Bruins as they ran a strong race at the national championship meet. The team had six runners finish in the top-15 to win their second NCCAA DII national title.

On the men's team, Douglas Stone earned his second All-American honor coming in third in the men's 8k with a time of 26:59. Teammate Sol Shafer crossed the line with a time of 27:26 to come in fifth and earn his first All-American status. The Bruins had five runners place in the top ten as the program captured their sixth consecutive NCCAA DII National Championship.

"This raises the expectations and carves a path for others to follow if they desire," said Roach. "It also gives this team a larger platform to point others to Christ's love for each of us which is truly what is at center focus."

BJU is a provisional member of NCAA DIII and an NCCAA member. The BJU Bruins feature 13 varsity programs and over 200 student-athletes.
